Depeche Mode’s fourth album “Some Great Reward” was recorded at Hansa studios in Berlin under the production and engineering direction of Daniel Miller and Gareth Jones between January until August 1984 and released in September 1984. The album peaked at number five in the United Kingdom and number 51 in the United States producing a Top 40 hit “People are People” and club hit “Master and Servant”.
The metamorphosis of sound and songwriting continued blending darkness and light. In this album, the tenderness in the ballads provided stark contrast to the metallic rhythms and the melodic musical soundscapes. This album led to the band’s breakthrough in America and established a devoted fan base across the globe.
The album photography depicted a bride and a groom in front of an old factory – this factory is where Brian worked in his teens.
